Canvas

Canvases are open fabric meshes usually made of cotton. They form the woven textile base for many techniques and embroideries. Canvas is usually fully covered with embroidery over its entire area. Fine canvases from 6ct. to 18ct. are well suitable for example for cross-stitch works, needlepoint and satin stitch, while coarse canvases ranging from 3ct. to 5ct. are meant mainly for coarse (half) cross-stitch and latch-hook works.

A special finish lends the fabric a stiffness which makes it easier to embroider. Canvases from ZWEIGART® are woven from sturdy, even multiple twines, are in many cases heavily finished and feature a square and stitch-precise surface.

Our canvas range offers qualities to be printed on for further processing, as well as diverse types of special canvases for artists and creators. We offer a unique selection of single, double-threaded and twist canvases in white and natural color, as well as customized colors and counts produced upon the customer’s request.

Mono-canvas is a single-threaded canvas. It is woven in plain weave resulting in clear squares between the threads and this canvas being very well countable. A special finish prevents the threads from shifting.

Double-threaded canvases are also plain woven, but it has two threads packed close together, forming a stable woven checker made up of two warp and two weft threads. The opening between the woven checkers is clear and simplifies counting and embroidering. It is the classic canvas for tapestry and Gobelin works.

Twisted Canvas (Interlock) in which a warp thread twists around each of the weft threads to prevent threads from shifting. It is similar to single-threaded canvas but this canvas has a higher surface stability due to the special binding, an example would be item 9604 ZWEIGART-Twist.

Rug Canvas

Our canvases are divided into three categories: mono-canvas, twisted or interlock canvas, and double-threaded canvasses. Each canvas binding has different features and is particularly well-suited for certain embroideries or rug works. Which canvas is most suitable depends on the project at hand and the technique and material used.

Our trademark is the "Orange Line" - an orange-coloured thread in the selvedge of all ZWEIGART® fabrics. This is our sign for best quality and state-of-the-art fabrics that are absolutely precise in the weaving. That’s ZWEIGART® "Made in Germany.

Evenweave fabrics

IMMACULATE PERFECTION

In order to make sure every embroidery project ends with a perfect result, one characteristic of our evenweave fabrics is most important: an absolutely evenly and squarely woven quality fabric. We offer a range of counts from 20 - 40 ct. mostly in cotton blend fabrics with a great selection of colors.

In addition to high-grade linen fabrics, ZWEIGART® evenweaves are also available in easy-care cotton and blended fabrics. The combination of high-quality cotton and modal yarns make our evenweave range a special highlight.

They are woven exactly on the square in plain weave, so their warp and weft thread count are exactly the same. They are well-suitable for any counted embroidery. Our evenweave fabrics furthermore also have a firm finish, which makes it much easier to embroider without a frame.

Our well-known Easy Count Grid fabric includes a counting help (10 x 10 grid) which is woven in the fabric and disappears after washing.

Punch Needle

With a punch needle, one works on the top side of a fabric, while loops are being created on the reverse side. The stitched image on the top side is flat and much clearer as well as more detailed, while the loops on the reverse side create a 3-dimensional look.

Our articles 3528 Monk’s Cloth (7 ct.), 3517 Monk’s Cloth Fine (13 ct.) and 1198 Floba (18 ct.) are the ideal base fabrics for achieving perfect results in punch needle works with wool yarns. Several other fabrics from our product range can also excellently be used for this technique, even for finer punch needle works.

If the background of the punched motif is to remain partly free, our evenweave articles 3609 - 32ct. Belfast Linen, 3984 – 32ct. Murano and 3835 – 25ct. Lugana offer a lovely choice of colors and are well suitable. Special background effects can be created with our printed fabrics, such as Petit Point, Sparkle, Vintage, Splash and Leaves or with our metallic threaded fabrics, such as our colors opal, gold and silver

Punch needle is a versatile yet simple embroidery technique which can be used for creating unique designs on our specialised fabrics. The punch needle is a hollow decorative stitching needle with which the thread is "punched" onto the fabric from the top. The technique ranges from thick punch needle with wool yarns to very fine punch works with embroidery threads. We offer specially woven Monks Cloth fabrics which are best suitable to realize high quality punch needle works!
